Happy New Year from CH Ilia's Legacy Balthazar Benjamin, CGN |
On November 11, Rus (Rut Bari Ruslan of Sherwal )turned one year. He was 108 lbs. By now, he'd be about 115 lbs. We have been walking for 90 minutes every day (down to 70 minutes now until we're in the spring). Inevitably, we walk up and down hills to improve his musculature and joint formation. Rus is an interesting dog. He has exceptional memory for things that he wants to remember. Those that he does not want to, he ignores. He is a true 'people' dog. He seems to prefer human company to that of dogs. When we go for walks, he is unbelievably attentive, seeing and hearing things before I do. Interestingly, I continue to get very complimentary remarks about him. He is really a beautiful dog. As far as personality goes, he is occasionally very stubborn, but does realize that he needs to behave (with virtually no corrective effort on my part). It is true, however, that a Black Russian Terrier is not for people that have no experience with dogs. By the way, he absolutely adores my daughter. She can actually take him for a walk notwithstanding that the two of them weigh just about the same. All in all, Rus is a beautiful dog. Mark |

Well here's the picture of Sable (Katja Sable Aleksandra Regins Star) from her past Canine to Five playdates and our recent playdate weekend with all her pals at East Bay Lodge at Houghton Lake. She's the one with fur covering her eyes, tongue hanging out, short tail and beard (probably all wet and drooling/dripping). Saturday, after watching the Labs an other dogs in the water she discovered that water is great for splashing, drinking, cooling off and swimming in. After that I couldn't keep her dry, she was always in the water, even Sunday before we left I had to dry her off to get in the car to come home. But she was wiped out and slept sooooo good!!!! Maggie (Margverite Regins Siberian Star): Maggie is doing so well at 4- she continues to be the loyal guardian of the house and of us - she is easy around children, other dogs, and people she knows. She is very intent on keeping the house and the yard safe for us- safe from strangers (like a new letter carrier), or a strange cat or racoon in the back yard. Her "big girl bark" is quite something! Playing ball in the park remains one of her favourite activities-we've taught her to bring the ball back and drop it in our hands- rather than spit it out at our feet. I love watching her run and "hop" about when she's happy. She is headstrong- a little aloof- she sleeps at the top of the stairs or the foot of the bed- and long ago tossed out her expensive sheepskin bed and any rug in favour of the hardwood floor- she really prefers to lay down where it's cool. She LOVES the water- so swimming at cottage is perfect for her. Her best doggie friend is an adorable 4 year old intact male Bouvier she met in the park- I've never seen her play "full out" with any other dog the way she does with this guy- and he apparently doesn't play well with other dogs- but somehow they do really well with each other. Funny, isn't it. There are days when I'm sad we had her spayed....she's such a great dog that I think great puppies from her would have been a wonderful thing. Thanks again for sharing her with us! Hi Marina! Keira (Iliaslegacy Asher Keira Regins Star) continues to be a wonderful girl and addition to our family. I read someone's review that they were starting to get their protective side...which she is also doing. She runs the yard in the morning...barking at all of the people walking by with their dogs...or just walking. It is a good workout for her...she gets worn out doing it!! She and Natalie...as you know...are best friends. As a mother, it is just great to watch such a bond forming between the two. Such a special thing! Congratulations to you on all of your success with Vlada and Lori. We visit your website often and try to keep up to date! We just recently had a storm...so we went up to the snow yesterday. I am sending some pictures along. Natalie and Keira loved it...were very exhausted at the end of the day! Please pass along a big kiss from Keira to you and your daughter! Love, Larissa |

Zeta (Darina Regins Siberian Star)is doing well. She is SUCH a “homebody” right now… it is all we can do to encourage her to want leave home. She just loves her house, her mat and relaxing away from the busy horse show life. 2008 was a VERY BUSY show year for the horses. Jenna represented Alberta at the Youth World Show in Oklahoma City in August. They did not make the final cut but they both did extremely well given the level of competition at Worlds. They came back to Canada to win 4 Canadian Championships and 3 Reserve Championships in the 7 events that they showed in at Canadian Nationals. They also won the All Around Youth and Horse of the Year for Alberta! We travelled to Saskatchewan , all through Alberta, to Las Vegas and Oklahoma and Montana. Zeta stays with us in the motorhome at nights and guards our huge amount of tack and show clothes during the day (i.e. she just sleeps nearby and her presence says it all!). She loves to be around the horses. We go out West through snow and bush to find the perfect tree. At the end of the day we stop and make a campfire and heat chili and laugh with all those with us. Zeta loves the day!! Her hair was a shambles and the snow on her face was priceless. She slept for all of the next day with all the exercise she got. Have a wonderful Christmas season Marina and a very blessed and prosperous 2009! Marilyn, Stephen, Jenna & Zeta |

Yuri (Regins Star Yuri of Blackrain) and Rhea Here are some new photos of Yuri and Rhea. They are both such pleasures to have around. They are good natured and love kids and people. Yuri definitely is more strong-willed. Rhea has been so easy from the beginning. She definitely is the boss though! They both love their walks. Rhea will run at the TV if there is a dog on it. Yuri just wants to play all day long. He is hililarious in nature with his quirkiness of swimming on his side and loves his neck being pet where he arches way back that we keep thinking he is going to Fall over. We love them and can't go anywhere without someone asking us what kind of dogs they are. Take Care and God Bless, Connie |

Our dog Jack was from Mars and Trudy. He is almost 2 years (in January). He has the sweetest, warmest personality you can imagine. When he goes to doggie daycare, he is the biggest but most gentle one there....everyone says he is very good with all the dogs!! He LOVES people. (well, until he gets a good sniff and decides to let them in the house). We recently adopted a baby and he has been so gentle (yet curious) with him. Our Jack is so smart,, he knows the names of 8 of his stuffed toys and can pick them out when asked. (btw, he has stuffed animals now for 2 years without even a tooth mark in them since he is so gentle) I can't imagine ever owning a different breed of dog. We are BRT lovers for life!! Thank-you, Andrew, Tara, baby James and Jack the dog Waller |

Rodion (Rut Bari Rodion of Sherwal) was scared when I first picked him up from the airport but he warmed up very quickly. The car ride went fine ,he was very relaxed. When we got home he went straight to Izzy and they played right away, and have now been playing all morning. We had a long night, I had to take him out at 2 am and then he was up most the night. He loves the snow ,we have been outside twice today and both times he did not want to come in, Thank you for all you have done and I will stay in contact.,I will send you pictures and I will upload videos on Youtube (To see video of Rodion's first day at home, please click here) Ed |

Rus (Rut Bari Ruslan of Sherwal) Rus is doing phenomenally well. He was born on November 11, and I picked him up on December 28. At first, he was chewing on everything. We got over that. He is a very active dog that prefers to run everywhere rather than walk. Actually, and much to my surprise, he walks up the ten stairs that I have from my deck to the back yard. He is a most engaging little dog and I cannot tell you how much I enjoy his company. I think he will grow to be a very nice (and probably a bit head-strong) dog. Rus is happy in the snow and unbelievably active. We are now on two daily walks, each at least 20 minutes. When the snow is plowed from the sidewalks (looks like it will happen soon), we'll walk longer. I don't know if Rus bonded with me yet, but I can say I most certainly did bond with him. Rus, my little terrorist, continues to do exceedingly well. He now sleeps through the night (from 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. ) and has not had any accidents in the house for over a week. Yes, I know, he has trained me well to go outside. Three days ago, Rus learned to go downstairs (10 steps from my kitchen to the back yard). Last Friday, I showed him off at work. He was extremely well-behaved. No biting, no trying to run away, no jumping on people, just very friendly. He was a great hit! Mark |

Hi Marina and Family! |
|||
By the way....something funny happened Sunday afternoon. I just finished bathing and drying my friends Sheltie and they went home. I disinfected and cleaned the dog bath out so it was ready for the next time. Well Isaiah (Black Rock Leo Siberian Star)and Buddy came down the basement and I said to buddy, “do you want a bath” and her ran away upstairs. now Isaiah was watching me dry the tub out and I had the side door in the tub dropped down. I started to walk away from the tub and thought, “where is Isaiah”?? I turned and looked and he had jumped into the tub and was sitting there, so i walked over and locked the side door up and was joking and asked him if he wanted a bath. Then I put the door down again so he could jump down from the tub, they he laid down in it!! He was trying to tell me he wanted a bath!! I had to burst his bubble and tell him I didn't have enough time today. I finally had to call him out of the tub to come upstairs. Murray and I were very amused that he was trying to tell us that he wanted a bath too. But not Buddy....he just ran away. Anyway it was a cute story I thought that I would share with his Grandma and Grandpa!! |
